Betaine, also known as glycine trimethyl inner salt, is a non-toxic and harmless compound. The appearance is white crystalline powder or granule, molecular formula is C5H12NO2 and molecular weight is 118, and melting point is 293°C. It has light sweet taste and is a substance similar to vitamins. Currently widely used in feed breeding industry, betaine is used as a feed additive to increase pig body weight and improve feed conversion efficiency.
1. The use of betaine in piglets
For post-weaning piglets, adding betaine can improve growth and development performance, and the actual effect of 600Mg/kg betaine is the best; 800Mg/kg betaine improves the digestion and absorption rate of dry matter and crude protein in the diet, and improves proteolytic enzymes Activity can also increase the lean meat rate of piglets, reduce diarrhea, reduce urea nitrogen and increase serum protein total iron binding capacity.
2. The use of betaine in growing and fattening pigs
Adding betaine can increase the daily weight gain of growing and fattening pigs and reduce the feed-to-weight ratio. Also can increase crude fat and longissimus dorsi components of the pigs to improve the quality of pork.
3. The use of betaine in breeding pigs
Studies on primiparous sows have found that betaine can increase the number of piglets and litter weight after weaning at 21 days of age, reduce the estrus interval within 7 days after weaning, and improve the breeding performance. It can also promote the ovulation period and sperm of sows. Because betaine acts as a methyl donor, it can promote protein synthesis and reduce the level of homocysteine in the serum protein of sows, thereby promoting the growth and development of in vitro embryos and improving the breeding performance of sows.
