The effects of betaine on broiler diet mainly focus on feed intake, feed conversion rate and meat quality. At present, the adverse effects of high temperature on broiler scale production are alleviated by nutritional regulation. Betaine contains 3 methyl groups, which can partly replace methionine to provide methyl groups for poultry, promote protein synthesis, reduce fat deposition, effectively prevent fatty liver, maintain osmotic pressure balance, improve the intestinal environment, with good palatability, promote broiler feeding.
It was found that adding 200 mg/kg betaine to chicken feed could increase body weight and feed conversion rate of broilers by 4% and 2%, respectively. It is reported that the supplementation of 1 000 mg/kg betaine can significantly improve feed intake and digestion and absorption efficiency of broilers under high temperature environment. The study of Xu Zirong’s study showed that dietary supplementation with different concentrations of betaine could significantly increase the feed intake of broilers aged from 1 to 24 days and reduce the ratio of feed to gain. The effect of high concentration of betaine on feed intake was better than that of low concentration of betaine, and 2 000 mg/kg betaine had the most obvious effect.
It is not difficult to find that betaine supplementation in broiler diet has positive effects on weight gain and health of broilers. So it can be proved that betaine as a dietary additive for broilers has high efficiency and cost-effective.
